Exercise physiology

Build or maintain strength, fitness and movement skills with exercise shaped around your health, abilities and everyday goals. That might mean building the leg strength to get up from the couch without pushing off the armrests.

Physiotherapy

Understand what is making movement difficult and work through a plan for physical function, mobility or pain that affects daily activity. For example, working out why the front steps have become hard to manage, then practising them together.

Who Drift Health works with

Helping kids with autism be kids is at the heart of Drift Health. We also work with children and adults with other disabilities, and with older people who want to stay strong and steady at home.

Autism (our core focus)

We get to know how your child communicates and what they enjoy, then use play to build the strength, balance and coordination for joining in.

Intellectual disability

Clear demonstrations and time to practise help make exercise easier to follow, for children and adults.

ADHD

Short activities, variety and games based on your interests can make movement easier to get into.

Developmental delay

We break movement into smaller skills, like stepping, climbing or catching, and practise them through play.

Down syndrome

Build strength, balance and stamina around the activities you or your child enjoy, at a pace that suits your health needs.

Older people at home

Work on the strength and balance for getting around the house and keeping up the things you enjoy.

Exercise and physio across Sydney for 8+ years

Drift Health has been working with the NDIS community for more than 8 years, and more than 130 families across Sydney have trusted us with their sessions.

That experience shapes how we start: we get to know the person first, then choose exercise they can actually do and want to keep doing.

Build the skills and fitness for everyday life in 3 easy steps

Whether you’re using NDIS or Support at Home funding, we’ll work with you towards better mobility, fitness and independence, and help you check what your plan covers.

  1. Tell us what you want to work on

Share what’s becoming difficult for you or your child, and what you’d like to do more easily. We’ll also ask where you’re based.

  2. Meet the right clinician for you

We’ll connect you with an exercise physiologist or physiotherapist whose experience fits your needs, and work through the funding and appointment options with you.

  3. Start building strength and independence

Get started in as little as 7 days, with an assessment of how you move and a practical plan for the activities you want to do more easily.

Using NDIS or Support at Home funding

NDIS participants

Exercise physiology and physiotherapy may be funded through your NDIS plan when they relate to your disability support needs and fit the supports in your plan.

Our NDIS page explains how plan management, Capacity Building categories and budgeting for sessions work, so you know what to check before you book.

How NDIS funding works

Older people with a Support at Home package

If Mum or Dad has a Support at Home package, exercise and physio can help them feel stronger and steadier doing familiar things at home, like getting up from a favourite chair.

We visit them at home and, if they’d like, keep the family updated on what we’re working on.

Not sure where to start?

Most people who contact us aren’t sure which service they need. That’s fine. Here’s what we usually hear, and how we help.

“I don’t know if I need EP or physio”

You don’t need to decide before you call. Tell us what has become difficult and we’ll suggest where to start. Our guide to exercise physiology and physiotherapy also explains how the two compare.

“I’m not fit enough to start”

You don’t need to be. We assess how you move now and start at a level that feels manageable, with rest and support built in.

“Exercise hasn’t worked for us before”

Tell us what got in the way. It might have been the setting, the pace or how things were explained. That tells us what to change this time.

“I’m not sure what my funding covers”

We’ll explain our fees and how sessions could fit your NDIS plan or Support at Home package before anything is booked.

Your questions about getting started

What's the difference between exercise physiology and physiotherapy?

Both professions work with movement and function, and their scope can overlap. Exercise physiology centres on assessing and prescribing exercise; physiotherapy may use a broader range of physical approaches. What fits depends on the concern and the clinician's scope, so describe the goal and ask us to help you choose. Our exercise physiology vs physiotherapy guide in Resources goes into more detail.

Can Drift Health come to my home?

Drift Health offers mobile services in Sydney. Tell us your suburb and the setting you have in mind; we'll confirm whether a suitable appointment can be arranged there.

Can I use my NDIS plan?

Exercise physiology and physiotherapy may be NDIS therapy supports when they meet current funding criteria and fit the person's plan and disability-related needs. A diagnosis alone doesn't confirm funding. We work with self-managed and plan-managed participants; Drift Health isn't a registered NDIS provider, so NDIA-managed plans can't be used with us. Not using NDIS funding? We also see private clients. See the NDIS page for the questions to check.

How much do sessions cost?

Our NDIS fees are in line with the NDIS price limits, and travel is charged in line with NDIS rules. A standard session is 60 minutes, with extended sessions available. We'll quote the cost of sessions, travel and any agreed reports before paid sessions begin, and confirm it in a service agreement. The first Exercise Health Check call is free.

How soon can I start?

You can get started in as little as 7 days, depending on your suburb and which clinicians have availability. We'll give you a realistic time when you contact us.

Do I need a referral?

No. You don't need a GP referral to work with us or to book the free call. Support coordinators and health professionals can also refer someone through our referrals page.

Can I see both an exercise physiologist and a physiotherapist?

Yes, if that suits your goals and funding. Both are part of the Drift Health team, so we'll talk with you about how the two could fit together.
