Build strength and mobility for everyday independence in 4 simple steps

We’ll guide you from your first assessment through to regular sessions, starting at a level that suits you. Together, we’ll work on the movements that help you do more for yourself.

  1. Talk about your goals

Tell us what you want to do more easily, like getting out of a chair or walking to the letterbox.

  2. Assess how you move

Your physiotherapist looks at the strength, balance and mobility behind that activity and explains what they see.

  3. Practise the skills

We choose exercises and activities that fit your routine, starting at a level that feels manageable.

  4. Build on your progress

We review how things are going and adjust the plan so it keeps helping you work towards your goal.

What happens at a home physio visit

Your first visit is mostly about understanding how you move in your own space. It’s a conversation and an assessment, not a workout.

Here’s what your physiotherapist will usually cover.

  • A chat about what has become difficult and what you’d like to do more easily
  • Watching you do the activity that matters, such as standing up from your chair or managing the front step
  • Checking the strength, balance and mobility behind that activity, and explaining what they see
  • Looking at where you do it, like the hallway, stairs or bathroom, so practice fits your home
  • Agreeing a first few exercises you can manage between visits
  • Talking about who you’d like involved and how you prefer to communicate

Helping autistic children move, play and join in

Our connection-first approach starts with getting to know your child: how they communicate, what interests them and what helps them feel comfortable.

Through play, we work on the strength, balance and coordination your child needs to join in with games and manage more of their day independently.

Drift Health also works with children and adults across the NDIS, including people with other disabilities. We’ll talk through your movement goals and how physiotherapy could help.

For you

Your plan can focus on moving more independently or keeping the mobility you have. We’ll work on the strength and balance behind daily activities, such as managing the steps at home.

We’ll also talk about how you prefer to communicate and who you’d like involved in your care. Your goals and choices guide the sessions.

For your child

Learning to balance, climb or change direction can make it easier to join playground games. We break movement skills into manageable activities and adjust the challenge to your child’s abilities.

You’ll understand what we’re working on and why. We can also talk through ways to practise between sessions that suit your child and your family’s routine.

Can I use my NDIS funding for physiotherapy?

You may be able to use your NDIS funding for physiotherapy when it relates to your disability support needs, meets the NDIS criteria and fits the supports and budget in your plan.

Drift Health works with self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants. We’re not a registered NDIS provider, so NDIA-managed (agency-managed) plans can’t be used with us. We’ll explain the fees, including travel, before paid sessions begin. Your plan manager or the NDIA can help you check what your funding covers.

What people ask before starting physio

Do I need to be fit before starting physiotherapy?

No. We assess how you move now and choose activities that suit your abilities. You can start with the movement you’re able to do, with rest and support as needed.

What if physiotherapy or exercise hasn't helped before?

Tell us what was tried and what got in the way. That helps us understand what might need to change, from the starting level to the activities or pace. We’ll explain what we recommend and why before you decide whether to go ahead.

How often will I have sessions?

Session frequency depends on your goals, how you respond to the work and what fits your routine. We'll discuss a proposed schedule with you and review it as things change.

Do I need to choose physiotherapy or exercise physiology first?

No. Both professions use exercise, with different approaches to assessment and treatment. Tell us what’s difficult and what you’d like to work towards. We’ll help you understand the options and which clinician could suit your needs.

Can someone I trust be involved in my sessions?

Yes, with your agreement. Tell us who you would like involved and how you prefer to communicate. A family member or support person can help share context and understand the plan.

What happens at the first appointment?

We'll assess where you're currently at and talk through your needs and goals. Your physiotherapist explains what they see and outlines a personalised exercise and physiotherapy plan for you to work through with us.

How much will a session cost?

Our fees are in line with the NDIS price limits for physiotherapy, and travel is charged in line with NDIS rules. A standard session is 60 minutes, with extended sessions available. We’ll quote your sessions and travel, and confirm everything in a service agreement before paid therapy begins.

Let’s talk about what you want to do

Tell us what has become difficult and what you would like to work towards. Our team can explain how physiotherapy sessions could fit.
